Powder Metallurgy (PM) Tool Steels: Tool steels produced via powder metallurgy for cutting and forming dies are primarily characterized by the following properties.
  • Homogeneous structure.
  • An equal and statistically random distribution of carbides.
  • The toughness properties have been optimized in the direction of the rolling and/or forging load.
  • Optimization of toughness and wear resistance.
The benefits these features offer to users are:
  • It enhances operational and process safety.
  • Greater resistance to breakage.
  • Improved dimensional stability compared to conventional steels during heat treatment.
  • Easier to grind than conventional alloy steels.
